Evening barbecues are one of my favorite parts of summer. However, the mosquitoes that come along with them are probably one of my least favorite parts. So when it comes to spending evenings outside I always pair jeans with a light top so that the mosquitoes can't bite!

I love this top I bought in France a few years ago because not only is it pretty much as nautical as you can get (and matches my ring!), but it is also light enough to wear on the hottest days. With this easy combination I can worry about which pasta salad I want instead of the weather and bugs!

Also, isn't it crazy that today is the last day of July? The summer is going so quickly and the days are getting shorter!

One of my favorite parts of summer is the ability to be able to just throw on a dress and heels and not have to worry about complex layers and staying warm. While I will be excited to wear layers when fall comes for now I am loving every warm afternoon that I can just wear an easy dress.

I was given this necklace as a graduation present from a friend and ever since then I have been obsessed with it. From the first J.Crew version to the Bauble Bar version I have loved these necklaces. Not only is it a great necklace to wear with summer dresses but it also goes perfectly over more casual tshirts.

Outfit: Polka Dotted Summer

While the temperatures are still steaming around Boston my mind has started to think about Fall. I usually stop buying summer clothes at the beginning of July and start looking into fall pieces. However, the best pieces are those that can be worn every season.

That is why I love this light weight sweater from Topshop. For the last month of Summer it can easily be thrown over a light shirt and shorts for chillier nights or afternoons by the windy ocean. Then in a few months when the temperatures have dropped you can layer warmer pieces underneath the sweater. One of my favorite ways to do this is an easy tee underneath a chambray shirt. With heavier layers on top you can wear a skirt with fun patterned flats.

Transitional pieces are key to every wardrobe and some other great options are easy blazers, skirts that can be worn with tights, and classic flats.

Transition: Summer to Fall Sweater

Happy Friday! It is finally dreary and chilly in Massachusetts and I couldn't be happier about it. The heat and humidity was getting to be too much for me and I'm about ready for fall. However, I know in just a month or two I'll be kicking myself for saying this. Weekends will soon become precious again since in just three weeks I move into school. Then before you know it twenty degrees will be the norm and I'll be cursing the Northeast winters.

For now though I plan to curl up with a book and watch the wind blow outside. Dreary weather is the perfect excuse to spend a day doing nothing! So whatever your weekend plans are I hope you are soaking up every minute of it.

{Express peplum top, J.Crew sweater, Lily White skirt, Nordstrom watch, Ralph Lauren sandals}

Here is the last look from my vacation in Connecticut. I wore this skirt for dinner with family that I hadn't seen in far too long! I bought this skirt a few months ago and I still don't really understand the pattern. Is it flowers, coral or seaweed? I don't have a clue.

Of course my basic peplum shirt must make another appearance. Just like in this post I ended up tucking the shirt into the skirt. These tops are seriously two of the best purchases I've ever made. The white version has been shown many times on my blog and I wear it even more in real life! If you can find any left in Express stores buy them in bulk! I can promise you won't regret it.

Outfit: Pattern Confusion

I have finally fully embraced the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale after going to my local Nordstrom yesterday and buying two great pairs of jeans (number 6 above and these Paige skinnies). Even though I've been trying to save my fall shopping until later I may be going back soon to buy some more.

While I have loved checking out the NSale picks from some of my favorite blogs (like these from Gal Meets Glam, Lemon Stripes, and Pink Peonies) many of their picks are way out of my budget. The Anniversary sale is the perfect time to stock up on some investment pieces, but on my budget investment pieces still can only cost under $150. So I've compiled my favorites from the sale that are under $75!

This knit moto jacket is absolutely perfect for fall and I love the idea of layering heavy shirts underneath or another jacket above for when the weather gets chillier. I just bought these skinny jeans (that only cost $40 during the sale) that are extremely comfortable and I can't wait to wear them. I'm thinking about picking up these ankle boots since I imagine they will be perfect for walking around the city once I'm at school!

Stock up before August 5th when the sale ends. Happy shopping!

After an incredible weekend on the ocean on Connecticut I got home yesterday afternoon as the clouds and rain moved in. While I was definitely ready to get home to my family, friends, and puppies I was sad to leave the gorgeous pool and ocean breeze at my Aunt and Uncle's house.

I've been happy to find that this skirt I bought a little over a month ago for my graduation works perfectly with many tops in my wardrobe. he skirt can easily be dressed up or down and pairing it with a knotted chambray top was the perfect way to dress it down for a casual evening dinner.

Happy Friday everyone! While I'm still on vacation in Connecticut I've been looking forward to this weekend for the start of Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale! I'll probably wait until I get home to purchase anything but until then I'll be sitting poolside checking out everything online.
Have a great weekend!

One of my favorite parts of the summer is the way certain colors flatter my tanner skin. While in the winter tangerine/coral (there are so many names for very similar colors!) is far too bright for my pale skin it is my favorite color in the summer! I am definitely not as tan as this color makes me look. Another way to make slightly tan skin look much tanner is to wear white nail polish and either neons or white!

I wore this outfit (originally thrown over a bathing suit) the other day for a relaxing afternoon and dinner by the beach. It has been far too hot for any heavy jewelry so I've been wearing my favorite pair of earrings that I thought had been lost forever. Luckily, they mysteriously showed up just before I left home!

As I sit by the ocean this week there are a few things that I wish I had with me! I love the Dorothy Perkins boyfriend shorts and Madewell tshirt that are perfect for being thrown over a bikini. And speaking of bikinis I'm still in need of a few new ones and this Topshop bikini has caught my eye. The fun pattern and girly cut are right up my alley. Adding comfy Soludos into this gorgeous beach bag is a great way to go from the beach to the boardwalk!

These pictures are from my first day in Connecticut! The weather has been incredible and I've been trying to soak up as much of the sun as possible. When I'm on vacation I usually tone down my make up and let my hair air dry. After a few days break from the hair dryer my hair feels so soft and looks much shinier!

I also love to wear easy outfits like the one above. This lace top from H&M is perfect for hot days  because it is so light and the skirt is my casual go-to because it goes with everything!

Follow along with my vacation with my Instagram. I'll be spending a lot of time by the pool, eating delicious food, and shopping!

Happy Monday! While almost never is Monday a happy day today is the exception. My sister and I are spending the week in Connecticut by the ocean and I can't wait to indulge in some much needed relaxing and exploring. Check out my instagram to follow along!

While I know I can't stop talking about the heat I'm going to mention it again. Highs are supposed to be in the mid 90s all week and all I can think about is cool fall mornings. The heat is bringing me back to classic easy (and light) pieces, such as some of my favorite black and white staples.

I love pairing classic tops with fun patterned bottoms while still keeping it all neutral. That being said the pants on the left aren't very realistic for 90 degree weather, though they will be perfect when fall starts to set in. Since it is still summer I thought bright bold bags were the perfect addition to the otherwise neutral looks. Switching the bold bags out for a burgundy blazer or cardigan over either of these outfits would also be a great way to transition into the chillier months ahead

Happy Friday everyone! This week has flown by and I'm so excited that the weekend is finally here. I had a fun week which included making dinner for a few friends and then going ont Newbury St in Boston for lunch and some very unneeded (but still welcome) shopping!

Tomorrow I will be packing for a trip to Connecticut to see some family and relax by the beach. The weather is showing highs in the 90s and humidity by the water so we will see how much time I end up spending outside! Is it wrong to say I'm ready for fall? While I love the long summer days the humidity and extreme heat has really been getting to me lately. I've been imagining crisp chilly days very often. I'll be taking lots of pictures of my trip on instagram as well!

I hope you all have a great weekend planned complete with relaxing and escaping the intense heat that has been taking over everything.

Happy Weekend!

As my family and friends know, I'm a magazine addict. I subscribe to four magazines and usually end up buying at least one more every month. Flipping through the glossy pages of Harpers Bazaar or Elle is often my favorite thing to do and the best way to relax.

Instead of getting rid of magazines once I've read them I end up keeping them all in my room. I love looking through old magazines and have some from as far back as 2007. However, since in just over a month I'll be moving in to a tiny dorm room with pretty much no storage space I most definitely will not have room for all my magazines. While I like looking through Pinterest and Tumblr there is just something about holding the pages of a magazine. So over the last few weeks I set out to  create a scrapbook of some of my favorite pictures and articles from the magazines that have filled my room. I bought this scrapbook from JoAnn Fabrics and used a glue stick and scissors to make the collages.

If you want to make your own collage scrapbook here are a few things I've learned.
- Use plain text pages or simple ads for backgrounds.
- Be creative with you cutting. Sometimes with overlapping pictures in magazines you have to experiment the way you cut out a picture.
- Group the pages/pictures you cut out into themes. Some of mine were bright colors/patterns, black and white, and "Wild West".
- If you have full articles you want to paste onto a page cut the edges in a fun shape and put a color background.

Good luck creating your scrapbooks!

Last night I made dinner for a few friends and my house and decided to put on a bright summery outfit after a long day at work. Unfortunately the weather wasn't cooperating with my summery attitude.

Luckily, unlike the weather, the recipe I was making did cooperate and my cheesy shrimp and pasta turned out well! Since I am definitely no chef my friends were happily surprised that the meal I threw together didn't poison them or make anyone sick.

Happy Wednesday! Only two more days until the weekend! On Sunday I'll be leaving for a little vacation in Connecticut with my sister. There will be lots of days relaxing by the pool and catching up on some reading!

Outfit: Dinner Basics

One of my goals at the beginning of this summer was to work on a few DIY projects and I've finally started my first! Even though I've been crazy busy with work the last few days I just started a little project for my dorm room in the fall. As you can see from the pictures above it involves a lot of magazine pages and glue. I'll have the full post up on Thursday!

DIY Sneak Peek

{Forever 21 top, Gap skirt, unknown belt, Free People bag, City Classified boots}

I wore this outfit last week on the Fourth of July for dinner with my friends and fireworks later on. The light top and flowy skirt was perfect for the unbearable heat that is still hovering over New England. I ended up changing into sandals for fireworks, but I loved getting to wear my favorite boots in the summertime!

I hope you all had a fun and relaxing 4th of July and weekend! I ended up working everyday but I'm looking forward to dinner with friends and a short trip to Rockport this week on my days off.

Happy Fourth of July everyone! As Lincoln said in the quote above today is a day to celebrate our pride in America and to think about the ways we can make our country proud. I hope you are spending the day with family and friends!

I'm staying home for the fourth of july and starting my day off on a hike with my mother and dogs. Then tonight I will be barbecuing with friends and heading off to see some fireworks.

Have a great Fourth of July!

Happy Fourth of July!

column three: tote bag, paisley wallet, bracelet, espadrilles, sunglasses

Stripes and brights are pretty good words to describe this months 20 Under $20 post. With a little Fourth of July inspiration these pieces are perfect for the final months of summer. Whether you are headed to the beach tomorrow or having a barbecue in your back yard bringing a little red, white, and blue spirit makes the fourth special.

Some of my favorites this month are the stripes navy espadrilles from Forever 21 and the red shorts from Urban Outfitters. They are perfect to throw on with a bathing suit and comfy chambray shirt. I also love the chevron print from Etsy to show some American spirit year around.

July 20 Under $20

{Pictures from my tumblr and Pinterest}

The New England way is definitely the nautical way. After spending the last six years of my life in New England I've been sucked in to classic oceanside style that can be seen on pretty much everyone on the Cape and the islands this time of the year. Every year around the Fourth of July I get bit by the nautical bug and classic blue and white stripes are all I want to wear. While I won't be going on this year I plan to make the most of my fourth of july by bringing the nautical spirit to my small town with some fireworks and barbecuing!

Look out tomorrow for my July 20 Under $20 post that will be specially done for last minute shopping for the fourth!

Inspiration: The New England Way

Tuesday, July 2, 2013
1: My graduation cap. Couldn't believe the day had actually come.
2: Fathers day shout out to an incredible dad.
3: Soaking up the sun on the first day of summer with The Devil Wears Prada.
4: Early morning hike with my sister and dogs.
1: Exploring a lake  at sunset with friends.
2: My favorite flowers that have filled our yard this summer.
3: Lemonade at my town's summer celebration.
4: My new sunglasses from Nordstrom.
5: Selena Gomez at the Amp 103.3 concert this weekend!!
6: Suffering in the heat at the concert with my friend.

The beginning of the summer has been pretty incredible. Even though I've been at home my friends and I have still found fun things to do most days.

While I was planning on having a relaxing weekend I ended up going to the free Amp 103.3 Birthday Bash concert in Boston with my sister and one of my friends. Ariana Grande, Drop City Yacht Club, Timeflies, Sammy Adams, Selena Gomez, and Jason Derulo performed. The concert started at two o'clock but  the area was already filling up when we arrived a little after ten. Between the intense heat and gigantic crowd it ended up being unbearably hot and sticky. However, even with the heat we had a great time and ended the day with ice cream!
