Earlier this week a club I'm apart of had an event with Banana Republic, Lancôme, and Pucker about the dos and don'ts of clothes and makeup for an interview. While I don't recommend wearing really any of the pieces above for an interview, the biggest thing I took away from the event was the need to look put together. In a formal interview that usually means a suit (sadly), a nice blouse, and a great pair of black (low heel) pumps with a fresh face, but for everyday you should play around with what works for you. No matter your style though, I feel the key is to start creating a wardrobe that almost feels like a brand inspiration board

I will always have a few pieces I love that seem to go with nothing else in my wardrobe (prime example here), but for the most part I want my wardrobe to seem cohesive. As more pieces complement other pieces the whole idea of looking 'put together' seems a lot less scary because your wardrobe reflects who you are and looks great at the same time.

And of course speaking of looking put together, this collection of my favorite things on the web right now highlights pretty much everything I plan on wearing this spring. You'll be seeing me solely in black, white, blush, and navy with a little bit of snake print and the always classic stripe thrown in. I plan on picking out more than a few extra-feminine pieces, like this blouse, but they'll feel a lot less girly paired with casual slip ons or a well fitting denim jacket (not shown, but I desperately need one). The best part of all these pieces working together is that when my budget only allows me to get a few new things I'll be able to mix-and-match my way to twenty new looks.

Despite the snow that blanked NYC Saturday night, yesterday actually felt a bit like spring. It was the first time in months I could even think about wearing tights without layering pants over them. Since the warm weather wasn't going to las long I took advantage of it and wore my new t-shirt dress. Of course it wasn't warm enough to wear it the way I actually want to wear it (with sandals and denim jacket), but with some thick tights and a warm scarf it worked perfectly. Hopefully the warm weather will be back soon, but for now I'm back to wearing a million layers and jumping over the slush puddles on my way to class.

This year for Lent I decided to put extra emphasis on my New Year's Resolution to wake up before 7am every weekday morning. I had a rough start this past week, but I'm hoping this week it will get better. It supposedly takes 3 weeks to start a new habit, so by the time Lent is over I'm hoping my body will be adjusted to the new schedule. Wish me luck :)

I've written about my scheduling and organizational tips on her a few different times, but after finding Sunrise Calendar I had to share it with all of you (FYI this is not sponsored). I've always been a pen and paper kind of person with my planners and lists, but as this semester began I found that my planner was overflowing and organized and my lists were getting too long and jumbled. I was struggling keeping up with everything I had to do, and it was mostly because of my horrible organization.

Then thanks to an amazing friend (who I owe my sanity to at this point) I discovered Sunrise. Sunrise Calendar pulls all your calendar information from Google Calendar, iCalendar, and Facebook (if you choose to connect them all), while also allowing you to create events right on the app. My biggest problems with online calendars is that they either have to be up in an browser tab, are poorly organized, or just completely confusing. Sunrise is none of those things and I am obsessed. All you have to do is go to the app store (either on your mac or on your iphone) and download it!

The weekly view is what I usually stick to and adding your events is incredibly easy. I started out by color coding a few things; grey = class, green = marketing society, and purple = admissions ambassadors. Plus, since I connected my Facebook all the events I join on Facebook also show up automatically. There is also a great space at the top of the calendar where I add specific to-dos for each day. While I don't include everything I have to do in this space I do put down due dates for assignments, social media posts I have to do for clubs I'm apart of, and scheduled posts for Peachy Keen.

I really never thought I would leave the land of paper and pencil when it comes to planning out my schedule, but with this new tool I've become so much more organized and less forgetful when it comes to planning out when I'm free. Sunrise has the advantage of being both a mobile application and a desktop app and the set up and organization is better than I've ever seen on a online calendar. I love that I will always have my calendar/schedule with my on my iPhone, but at the same time I also have a larger look at everything when I pull out my computer.

If you try out Sunrise let me know what you think! And if you find any fun or new tricks on it definitely tell me about them. Hope you all have a great (and warm) weekend!

Getting Organized With Sunrise Calendar

Fashion Week craziness is evident all across New York city, but to be honest I've missed a lot of this year. Between an intense week of school extra-curriculars as well as a much needed visit from my little sis NYFW was pushed to the back of my mind. That is, until I went on Style.com to watch recaps and found one too many looks to obsessed over.

This season (so far) my favorite designer looks have come from Tibi, Rebecca Minkoff, Alice + Olivia, Joie, and of course the always amazing J.Crew and Banana Republic. From the collections I've perused it seems that, from the designers I love, there was a perfect mix of my favorite trends from the last few seasons and shockingly beautiful new trends. When Fall 2015 arrives we will surely all be wondering whether to stick with the classics or try out some very different trends.

What's Here to Stay:
  • - Classic fall colors aren't gong anywhere. Those maroons (my favorite) and oranges were all over the red carpet.
  • - Leather is still a must-have. The money we've spent on all that leather (and pleather) is still worth it since the leather craze will be around for at least another season. Leather skirts were everywhere!
  • - Casual/Athletic style is the go-to. If you're craving pretty pleats or ruffles I feel ya, but the casual boyfriendy and athletic look is still taking over.
  • - Turtlenecks are most definitely still a yes, so if you see cute winter styles on sale right now don't feel bad picking up a few to save for next fall!

What's New:
  •  - Pastels for fall are in. Don't ask me who thought pastels were meant for fall, but they sure are everywhere at NYFW. Between pastel sweaters and my favorite pastel pink trousers from J.Crew there is plenty of springy feeling for this fall.
  • - Short shorts are back. Remember the amazing short suits from a few years ago? They're (sort of) back! Plenty of designers were showing cute tailored shorts for the fall and I fell in love with a few short suits from Alice + Olivia.
  • - Navy is the new black. Navy was everywhere as I was sorting through different collections. While black can never really be replaced it seems navy blue may be taking over in the neutral category.

Trends For Fall 2015

Wednesday, February 18, 2015

New York is filled with so many quaint coffee shops and little restaurants, and while 90% of the time I'll suggest meeting a friend for coffee sometime's coffee just doesn't cut it. Last weekend after meeting a couple friends in the West Village we decided it was one of those times. The three of us ended up at Hamilton's Luncheonette going through every type of drink and sundae on the menu. Not only do they have classic milkshakes (or frappes as we call them in MA), but they also have phosphates, lactates, puffs, and rickeys. Before asking the waitress none of us had any idea what half those drinks were. I'm also dying to go back and try their sandwiches (they have hot dogs!) and the breakfast menu.

One of the best parts of Hamilton's was the cozy and un-cramped feeling of the place. While I'm sure it's busier during the warmer months (only crazy people like ice cream during the winter) it's still the perfect place to catch up with friends you haven't seen in a while. Plus, the huge windows and bar seating make for the best people watching view in town.

Hamilton's really comes through on there "Old-School Good Times" motto and if you're in the area (or really anywhere in the NYC area) this spot needs to be on your must-try list.

Happy Friday! This week has felt ridiculously long and has definitely had more than my usual number of waking hours (aka I'm a bit sleep deprived). However, there is nothing better than ending a long week with an incredible weekend and this one will be just that.

My sister and a friend are coming down from Boston to spend the weekend touring colleges and exploring the city. Not only will we be checking off all the usual visitor must-dos (brunch, museums, etc), but we will also be seeing Les Mis on Broadway. I've seen it once before (last spring), but my sister has been waiting years to the show in New York and I know it won't disappoint.

Now on to what is happening outside of my crazy schedule... New York Fashion Week has arrived. To be honest I completely blanked that Fashion Week started yesterday until late Tuesday night, but now that I know (and have gotten a bit more sleep) I'm ready to keep up. Updates will be coming next week!

Now some fun links for your weekend...

Links for your closet:
A Nordstrom sale going on until the 22nd has up to 40% off. I love this dress and this watch.
Lulus new pieces for spring are perfect. I'm already attempting to find somewhere to wear this dress.
My favorite NY (cheap) boutique-turned-online shop, Necessary Clothing, has the cutest new layers for spring.

Links for your life:
I am obsessed with this tortoise shell hair (supposed) trend started by Gisele Bündchen.
We all know caffeine is bad for us, but this article has motivated me to actually try and get off it.
Speaking of getting healthy, I've been super into quinoa and love this cinnamon quinoa porridge recipe.
Katie Holmes wants a Dawson's Creek reunion just as much as I do. If you haven't seen the best show of the early 2000s head to Netflix right now.

Plus, don't forget to check out @peachykeencaroline on Instagram to see plenty more pictures of my life in NYC!

Stradivarius blazer // Forever 21 tee // American Eagle jeans // Nine West slip ons

If you've followed this blog for a while you know that I absolutely love the Hudson River Park. While the park kind of shuts down when it snows there are still absolutely beautiful sunset views, especially with the way the ice on the river reflects the sky. While I was wandering the West Village with friends this past weekend we decided to head to the river at just the right time to see the beginning of a beautiful winter sunset.

I'm sure you can also tell from my recent outfit posts that I'm over boots and ready for spring. On every decently warm (and not so slushy) day I've been breaking out my slip-ons. They are so comfortable for long walks (which I have a lot of) and I don't feel like I'm completely bundled up like a snow man. Also, since my mom is probably reading, while not shown I did in fact wear a coat and gloves.

One of my favorite escapes within the city is The Met. I can wander the different exhibits for hours and I even subscribe to the weekly email so that I always know what new exhibits are coming through. I knew I needed to take a trip uptown before the semester ramped up so on a free Friday afternoon I headed up to the UES for a little inspiration.

I always start my met experience in the Greek and Roman art wing. It is easily my favorite part of the museum since as you walk towards the end the architecture becomes a part of the art (plus I love Roman history!). This past time I then went up to the 19th and Early 20th Century Paintings Gallery. I love Monet (duh), but recently I've also been loving Francisco Guardi's paintings of Venice and Camille Pissarro's landscape paintings. I lucked out and was able to see the El Greco exhibit in it's last few weeks at The Met, which was particularly amazing having just returned from Spain. The second picture in this set is El Greco's painting of Toledo, a city I absolutely loved.

I'm counting down the days until I'll be able to spend the afternoon at The Met and then wander through a green and flowering Central Park. That really is my idea of a perfect afternoon in New York, especially if you start it all off with brunch :)

Hope you all survive the Monday blues. I know I'm already wishing it was Friday...

An Afternoon at The Met

Now that I'm back to my semester routine I thought I'd share what a day in my life looks like. Of course, when I thought about how I wanted to share my day with you I knew I had to do it Hallie Wilson style aka minute by minute (though no one could ever be as funny as Hallie).

Wednesday January 28, 2015
6:30 a.m. The alarm on my phone starts to go off and I scramble to turn it off before I wake up my roommate.

6:32 a.m. Still lying in bed thinking there is no way in hell I can go to the gym right now.

6:33 a.m. I can hear my suite-mate (and gym buddy) putting her shoes on in the kitchen so I pull myself out of bed and change into gym clothes.

6:45 a.m. I start pushing my feet to turn the elliptical on as I look for the next episode of Serial on my iPhone. I'm currently obsessed with Serial and would love more podcast suggestions.

7:05 a.m. I'm 2/3 of the way done with my workout... and I kind of feel like death. The only way I'll work out is if I do it in the morning, but it s.u.c.k.s. a lot.

7:30 a.m. Into the shower I go. Thank god for warm morning showers. (I still want to crawl back into bed though)
7:45 a.m. The best part of the day - Breakfast. My current go-to is vanilla greek yogurt, strawberries, a little Kind granola and a slice of multi-grain toast with butter.

8:30 a.m. I've been procrastinating for the last half hour and now I have twenty minutes to get dressed, do my makeup, and put by bag together. oops.

8:50 a.m. I head into the freezing arctic island of Manhattan and slip and slide through the snow and ice as the wind slaps my face. Yeah, no fun whatsoever.

9:30 a.m. My first class of the day, Economics of Global Business, begins as I shut my computer after reading The Skimm.

10:45 a.m. EGB is over. Woooooo.

11:00 a.m. Movie Marketing, my favorite class this semester, starts off with a few hilarious trailers. My favorite is the trailer for Ben Hur from 1959.

12:15 p.m. My stomach is grumbling as I walk to my Marketing Society meeting where we will be playing a fun brand logo game and snacking on delicious dumplings.
2:45 p.m. I arrive at my Admissions Ambassador shift just in time! Thank god the building my classes were in are connected to my work building because I'm dreading going outside.

5:00 p.m. I leave work and swing by Toby's Estate quickly to get a boost of caffeine before another meeting.
6:00 p.m. Last meeting of the day! Brainstorming ideas for the USWIB conference that is just a few weeks away. I cannot wait to go home.

7:05 p.m. I'm finally heading up Broadway on my way home and it is freakin' cold. The food in my fridge is the only thing getting me through this weather. Chicken and rice here I come!
7:45 p.m. Yes. Food. I couldn't be happier as I sit at the kitchen table catching up with my roommates and checking my email.

8:30 p.m. All I have to do is finish up a few projects for Dressometry and I'm home free.

9:30 p.m. The semester has just started which means I have nothing to do yet for class so I settle into my bed with an episode (or a few) of Friday Night Lights.

11:10 p.m. Lights go off and I am out. The only good thing about working out in the morning is by the time I go to bed I am conked out.
____________________________________________________________________________

Phew. That was kind of a lot of information... and luckily that was one of my busier days. Plus, after a busy Wednesday I usually have a very easy Thursday. Hope you enjoyed this look into my day and let me know if you want to see more!

Day in the Life

Wednesday, February 4, 2015

What a night last night was... If you follow me on twitter you know that I was a little fired up about the Super Bowl last night (both for the commercials and the actual game). Since it was arguably the most important game ever played by Tom Brady and the Patriots I went between being stressed out and freaking out the whole time.

I'm sure, though, that all you non football and non Patriots fans are sick of hearing us New Englander's rave about historic quarterback, so I'll move on. To help beat your Monday blues I have my favorite pieces on the web this week. With the beginning of February my mind is in spring, even though I remember real fast that it is still winter every time I walk outside. I'm dreaming of pretty flats and and espadrilles while the reality is I'm still wearing thick scarves and warm sweaters.

On the non fashion/clothing side of things I've been feeling a little uninspired in the whole food and cooking category of my life. Maybe it's just adjusting back to a schedule that doesn't allow a great deal of time for cooking or maybe I'm realizing that nothing is better than my parents cooking, but I need a real kick of inspiration in meal making. While recipes found online are usually great there is just something about flipping through a cookbook. I love the Superfood option above, but I would love to hear other suggestions!
