As much as I love a good lazy Sunday, the summer is no time to stay inside on a beautiful weekend day. One of the hardest parts of adjusting to a full-time work schedule this summer was realizing that I was inside sitting all day 5 days a week. So, after a long work week I just want to get out and explore when the weekend comes around.

After a perfect weekend Monday feels both impossible and possible at the same time. I hate how a a busy weekend just seems to fly by, but this jam-packed weekend with my friend felt like 4 days squished into two. We someone fit brunch, a walk on the High Line, the Staten Island Ferry, and the Brooklyn Bridge at sunset all into one Saturday. It amounted to a little more than 10 miles of walking in one day, leaving us exhausted Saturday night.

Happy Friday everyone! I'm looking forward to what is supposed to be an incredibly hot, but beautiful, weekend here in New York. One of my roommates from NYU who's away for the summer is visiting and we have plenty of fun plans that I'll share a bit about with you next week. I'm finally going to Smorgasborg, so I I'll be able to check it off my summer bucket list. In the mean time though, I have a few of my favorite links from the week to share with you all.

I've said it time and time again, but I'll say it again. The Nordstrom Anniversary sale is the BEST sale of the year. While I always try to shop sales, I specifically look forward to the summer Nordstrom sale to get a few key pieces for fall ahead of the season instead of having to wait until November when they go on sale again. It's just not nearly as fun waiting for your favorite pieces to go on sale as it is getting them ahead of the season.

Looking ahead, this fall will again be about getting a few great classics like a quilted jacket or black jeans mixed in with trendier 70s inspired pieces (aka plenty of fringe and flowing sweaters). While I may always be looking for an excuse for a new pair of shoes (it's that Imelda Marcos in me) it really is the time to splurge on a new pair. Truly great shoes never seem to go on sale (unless you're a size 5 or 10 1/2), so getting up to 40% this season's pairs is ah-mazing. I may have to add a pair of suede over the knee boots and those adorable ankle strap heels to my ever-growing closet.

Of course, I couldn't possibly fit all my favorite pieces into the image above, so shop below for all my Nordstrom Sale picks under $100!

Prepare yourself for an overload of pictures... When I finally booked tickets home for the fourth the first thing my dad asked was if there was anything I was dying to do. I automatically asked if we could drive up to Maine for a day, specifically Ogunquit. My family has been taking trips up there ever since we moved to Massachusetts eight years ago and over the years it has become one of my favorite spots. The routine is always the same. We start with lunch at Barnacle Billy's (for Lobster Rolls of course), then wander through town a bit, and finish off the day with a walk along the Marginal Way. I lucked out and picked a perfect weekend to head up to New England because the weather was absolutely beautiful and I got my much needed city escape.

If you're ever in need of an escape like I was take a trip up to Ogunquit. It's less than an hour and a half drive from Boston and really has the quintessential New England nautical feel that everyone looks for.

Also, for everyone out there who's re-adjusting to a 5 day work week after the holiday last week, we are half way there! You can do it.

Travel: A Day in Ogunquit Maine

Monday is here and it's back to reality for me. I got pretty much as much time as possible of this perfect weekend by arriving in MA late wednesday night and leaving late Sunday night. It really was just what I needed.

Most of my weekend was jam-packed with plans (a day trip to Maine, a drive in movie, the 4th in Boston, etc) and I'll tell you more about them this week, but one of the true highlights was getting to spend Sunday just lazing around at home. After picking up Jodi Picoult's new book I just sat and read for hours. Then, before I had to leave for the train, my family made a perfect summer dinner (burgers & corn salad) and we ate out on the back deck. While I love New York, these are a few things that you just can't do in the city, so I'm always sure to make extra time for a little outdoors relaxing when I go home to MA.

And of course a lazy day meant an incredible lazy and comfortable look. Most of the day this outfit was thrown over a bathing suit so that I could get the most out of the sun. Then, when the sun started to set during dinner, the three-quarter length tee was the perfect cover up.

Happy July 1st to you all! If you saw my post Monday you know that June went by crazy fast for me letting the fourth of July sneak up on me. I lucked out this week and was able to get Thursday and Friday off of work, so tonight I'll be jumping on a bus and heading up to Boston. My amazing parents will be picking me up after midnight in Boston (thanks guys) and then early tomorrow morning we are headed up to Maine for the day. Finally, I'll be heading into my second favorite city, Boston (after NYC duh) for the fourth! You can expect to see lots of pictures of my wanderings on instagram over the next few days, so make sure to follow @peachykeencaroline

Before I signed off for the long weekend though, I wanted to share some of my favorite Fourth of July planning & entertaining inspirations from around the web. Whether you'll still trying to make plans for the holiday or just need to figure out what you're contributing to the barbecue, these will be perfect.

What to Wear:
Sloane's (Sailing the Sea of Style) collection of patriotic looks is perfect for a casual fourth
Mix up your usual holiday wear with a midi skirt like Hallie Wilson!
A navy & white striped tshirt dress is perfect for jumping from one party to another like Liz.
Try going all white an adding red tassel earrings and navy nails.
And did I mention I love stripes? Here's a whole lot of stripes inspiration.

What to Cook:
These individual cherry pies are the cutest dessert for any party!
Set up a bruschetta bar where people can mix and match what they want for toppings
Make everyone feel like a kid again with nutella covered frozen bananas
Or make things a bit fancier with watermelon rosemary mojitos (cocktail or mocktail versions)
If all else fails, don't forget you can always make the american flag fruit skewers

Hope you all have a fabulous Fourth of July with some well deserved (and needed) time off! I'll be back here Monday, but of course you can always find me on instagram and twitter. Please tag me in your pictures and tweets (or comment below) so I can see what you're all doing!
