If you're anything like me shopping for new jeans is a dreaded event that rears it's ugly head every year or so. I live in denim and the perfect jeans are definitely my version of a security blanket. I'm also totally that girl who thinks jeans are comfortable and wears them at home, on airplanes, etc (and yes I've been tagged in this meme many many times).

A new pair of ripped skinny jeans has been on my to-do list for a while now and since my trusted gap jeans have been failing me recently (I'm not sure what they did, but not loving their jeans anymore), I didn't really know where to start. I've bought most of my favorite jeans from Madewell, but the $130 price tag for most pairs is a little out of reach. I also love STS Blue at Nordstrom, but unfortunately there aren't any in NYC and jeans are a try on kind of purchase.

So, after failing at multiple other spots I headed to Old Navy and damn was I surprised. Not only do they have a bunch of cute pieces this spring including this top and this dress, but their jean selection is perfection right now. Pretty much any jean trend you're looking for they have, and everything is under $40. The fit is great and every pair I tried on was both comfortable and just stiff enough (I hate jeans that are too stretchy), and with their sales you can get a great deal. Suffice it to say, I feel like I basically found the jackpot.

I'd love to hear what you all think of Old Navy jeans though! Had good experiences or bad ones?

PS isn't this necklace so cute?! It's another one I got from LaceysLayers and I can't believe it is only $14!

Happy Friday! I'm so happy to know we're headed into another warm weekend here in New York. I feel like every day it's above 50 dresses I get closer to believing spring may actually be on the horizon.

I was definitely a little pre mature last weekend in pulling out this dress, but with the sunny weather and plans to sit outdoors during brunch it just felt like spring. You all know I love the off-the-shoulder trend, so the 'cold shoulder' variation of the trend is one that I've totally embraced for spring. If you're looking for cute spring dresses right now, I highly suggest checking out Zara. While they always kill it with the trendy pieces, there are also so many simple dresses right now in pretty blues or florals.

Last week Lacey from LaceysLayers sent me two beautiful necklaces! I'm wearing the feather necklace with this dress and you'll see the other one soon. All of her pieces are adorable and perfect for spring, especially this stone necklace, and the best part is almost everything is under $18!

Hope y'all have a great weekend!

Not So Cold Shoulder

Doesn't this picture make you want to drop everything and go find the closest Bluestone Lane? or maybe that's just me? That's ok because we've reached Wednesday 👯 which means I am that much closer to another weekend and another brunch date, this time with one of my best friends who is coming into town! We're thinking about trying out Littleneck or the new Friend of a Farmer in Brooklyn Heights, but if you have any suggestions please send them my way!

It's been two weeks since my first Coffee Break post, so for those of you that might of missed it I started this series to share pieces of my life outside of just the usual #ootd. Plus, if you have any questions you can always comment and I'll answer in future weeks.

1. Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies 2016 - Ok this is a little blogging related, but I was so excited this week when it was announced that rewardStyle, the company where I've been interning since September was named one of the Top 50 Most Innovative Companies by Fast Company. There's a great article here about how rewardStyle is changing the way we use social media and shop e-commerce! Also, if you're a rewardStyle LiketoKnow.it user (if not, sign up here) make sure not to miss the release of the LiketoKnow.it app in early March!

2. No Bread No Pasta - My trip to Cuba is less than a month away, so in an attempt to eat healthier (in combination with my new workout schedule!) I decided to try to cut out bread and pasta until I leave. To be honest I've already had a bit of a hiccup with a slice of pizza Saturday night, but otherwise I've been doing well by preparing egg muffins for the week on Sunday (so that I don't reach for my favorite almond croissants) and switching pasta for zucchini noodles. If you've never had zucchini noodles I highly suggest trying it out! I use this $13 spiralizer and cook the noodles with chicken sausage, a bit of garlic, and top with pesto - I promise it's delicious!

3. Career Girl Daily - Career Girl Daily is one my favorite reads (along with Refinery 29 and PureWow) and if you're a college student or post grad then you definitely need to check it out! Some of my favorite reads this week were the 6:3 Rule and the words you should Delete From Your LinkedIn. The site has a great mix of fun lighthearted articles and more serious 'adulting' ones

Let me know what you think of this week or what you'd like to see more of!

Coffee Break N.2

Somehow in the last few days New York has gone from Season 1 of Game of Thrones to Season 6 (insert eye roll). Any motivation I had to spend more than 5 minutes outside at a time has disappeared (and my Uber bill has already skyrocketed). That being said, I haven't taken any photos since the snowstorm on Thursday - so I thought I'd share these shots from last Wednesday when temperatures were in the high 50s and there was not a snow pile to be found. If you want to see shots of the snow then head over to Instagram and check out my instastory.

You may not know it but tights are my least favorite piece of clothing, so I'll choose over the knee boots and a dress or skirt over tights any chance I can get. Layering my favorite sweater over a sleeveless shift dress and then throwing my leather jacket on top was the perfect way to stay warm without feeling like I had a big puffy coat on (my other least favorite piece of clothing).

I hope ya'll have a great Monday! I'll be starting off the morning with a big cup of coffee and my new favorite breakfast, egg muffins (I'll share more on those on Wednesday!).

No Coat No Problem

It's officially one month until I fly out of JFK to sunny skies and sandy beaches in Cuba - so of course it snowed about a foot in NYC yesterday. While it was nice to have a snow day complete with a bottle of wine and cookies, all I could think about was spring and my ever growing wish list.

I've actually never been on any type of tropical vacation, unless Disney when I was a kid counts (it doesn't) and since the last few summers I've mostly been working there hasn't been much time for days at the beach. What this all means is that I need want to buy so much for this trip including patterned bathing suits, off the shoulder dresses, and adorable Soludus. I already have this shorts & blouse set as well as this bikini top on the way, but believe me there will be so many more purchases coming.

Are any of ya'll headed somewhere fun for spring break? If so, what's on your wish list?

Caroline's Covets: Spring Break

What a weekend it was... Being a New Englander living in New York, it was especially hard watching the Super Bowl (so many haters), but man am I proud of the comeback my team pulled out of nowhere. The hardest part now is realizing that there are 30 weeks until football is back (can you tell I'm a fan?)

I'm keeping things short and sweet today, just like the outfit I'm wearing. If I'm ever in need of an easy last minute look my go-tos will always be black booties, black jeans, my leather jacket, and whatever sweater is on the top of the pile on my chair. I'd love to know though, what is your easy morning uniform?

Comeback

Sometimes digging in the back of your closet makes for the best looks, and lucky for me my teeny tiny closet doesn't leave any space for things to be hidden away. However, it had been a while when I pulled this peacoat out last weekend and remembered how much I love it. As an old favorite it definitely brought a little life back into my otherwise pretty basic weekend look. And speaking of basic, I love a boyfriend button down because it can take you from weekend exploring to work meetings to drink with friends. Just switch booties for heels or nice flats and throw a colored blazer on top for the perfect casual yet appropriate work outfit.

Do ya'll have any fun plans for the weekend? Mine will be centered around the Super Bowl on Sunday since I wouldn't miss supporting my team (the Patriots!). I plan on scarfing down plenty of unhealthy snacks and can't wait to see this year's Budweiser commercials (I don't let myself watch them ahead of time!).

Finding Old Favorites

Friday, February 3, 2017
One of the goals I set for myself and When & Wear for 2017 was to get back to why I originally started this blog — it wasn’t all about fashion originally — and with a lot of big changes coming up this year I felt like it was time to bring the rest of my life back into When & Wear.

So around the new year I started brainstorming a couple ways to do this, and the first step is this new series — Coffee Break — a mid-week break from everything fashion & shopping for an update on what else is happening around here, because who doesn’t need a long coffee break when Wednesday rolls around? I’m planning on staying focused on lighter topics (I get enough of the depressing stuff from CNN and such), but I may bring in some more serious topics as time goes on. However, if there’s anything you all are ever wondering - may it be college advice, NYC tips, or even the occasional book suggestion - please send your questions my way!

And without further-ado here’s what’s new this week…

1. Millennial Podcast - This podcast has actually changed my life in the last week, no exaggeration. Being just a little more than 100 days away from college graduation brings up all these scary ‘real life’ questions, and it is really easy to think you’re the only one who’s freaking out. Even though everyone is graduating together, entering adulthood is surprisingly isolating at times and Millennial will remind you that you aren’t alone. A quick summary — Millennial is written by Megan Tan, who at the beginning of Season 1 has just graduated college and slowly learning how to navigate life and her career. They’re on Season 3 now and I can guarantee you that it only gets better and better (just make sure to start from episode 1).

2. Gal Meet’s Glam Waves - We all have our blogger crushes and Julia Engel is definitely one of mine. Her travels and feminine style just seem to have a magic to them. However, her defining trait has to be her perfect waves and this week I think I’ve finally started getting the trick to create them (but believe me I have so much father to go) thanks to her updated tutorial

3. Cuba Libre Series - So I haven’t mentioned this yet, but I’m going to Cuba for spring break! I’ve wanted to go to Cuba for years and luckily so have many of my friends. I’m excited to not only soak up the sun (this New Englander needs Vitamin D please), but also to get to experience some of the amazing history of the country. It’s been a long time since I’ve taken a history course, so stumbling upon Netflix’s new series Cuba Libre was just perfect in counting down to the trip and I highly recommend the series to both those who know a bit about Cuba and those who know nothing!

4. Hallie Wilson’s Tinder Tuesdays - Another blogger crush of mine is Hallie Wilson of Among Other Things (formerly Corals & Cognacs) and if you’re not tuning in for her weekly Tinder Tuesdays on Snapchat then you are seriously missing out. You may think you’ve seen the crazy that dating apps have to offer, but you’ve seen nothing compared to the photos she collects from her readers. It is so freakin’ hilarious and makes you question what the hell is up with the world. You can follow her on Snapchat @coralsncognacs (or click here) and believe me you’ll regret it if you don’t.

5. Zac Brown Band’s New Album - For any of you country fans who may have missed it, Zac Brown Band is releasing a new album in May and I am freaking out! You can find me listening to this playlist for the next 4 months in preparation.

To those of you still reading, thanks for sticking around and let me know what topics you might like to see in this series in the  comments!
