Can you believe we're just two weeks away from Fourth of July? I know it's only the first official day of summer (yay for longest day of the year!), but it's already feeling like these warm months are flying by too fast. Granted, ask me how I feel after taking the subway to work and I might be praying for winter.

With just 13 days until one of my favorite holidays of the year (second only to Thanksgiving) I thought I'd share not only a few of my favorite past red, white, and blue outfits but also some of my favorite pieces available this season! When it comes to the Fourth I'm all about subtly working in our patriotic colors with stripes, embroidery, and fun accessories. Sometimes though a little bit of ridiculous piece - like this watermelon bikini - can be a fun way to celebrate!

This will likely be my first Fourth of July in New York, so instead of bikinis and flip flops I'll probably be throwing on something a bit cuter like an on-theme romper or fun skirt. This gingham dress (shown above) from Zara is also a recent addition of mine that I will 100% be wearing at least once over the holiday weekend! It's the perfect dress to keep cool in this ridiculous NYC humidity while also looking extra festive.

Do y'all have any fun plans for the holiday weekend? If you have any suggestions for what to do in NYC during the Fourth I'd love to hear them as well!

You can shop all my favorite pieces at the bottom of the post!

Can you believe Memorial Day Weekend is already here? While I won't be doing much this weekend besides moving into my new apartment it stills feels like summer is *officially* around the corner!

I say this every year, but I get so excited when summer rolls around because I can break out my favorite color combo, red white and blue, without feeling like an idiot. I can't get enough of navy stripes, red patterns, and everything baby blue this year. Since summer is all about long evenings I'm all about pieces that can bring you from work to dinner with friends or even straight onto the train to the beach! In addition to some classic staples I'm also looking to add a new straw bag to my rotation and this one is perfect and only $50!

I have a few weekend trips in the works right now for July and August so I'll also be sharing a summer packing guide soon as well!

Caroline's Covets: Memorial Day Weekend

Wednesday, May 24, 2017

It's officially one month until I fly out of JFK to sunny skies and sandy beaches in Cuba - so of course it snowed about a foot in NYC yesterday. While it was nice to have a snow day complete with a bottle of wine and cookies, all I could think about was spring and my ever growing wish list.

I've actually never been on any type of tropical vacation, unless Disney when I was a kid counts (it doesn't) and since the last few summers I've mostly been working there hasn't been much time for days at the beach. What this all means is that I need want to buy so much for this trip including patterned bathing suits, off the shoulder dresses, and adorable Soludus. I already have this shorts & blouse set as well as this bikini top on the way, but believe me there will be so many more purchases coming.

Are any of ya'll headed somewhere fun for spring break? If so, what's on your wish list?

Caroline's Covets: Spring Break

Friday, February 10, 2017

There are three colors that make up about 80% off my wardrobe - black, white, and grey. While these colors will probably always be staples in my outfit rotation, lately I've been growing sick of my neutral (some might say boring?) color palette.

Instead in my various shopping trips (I've been very bored this Winter Break) I've found myself drawn towards pieces in blush, beige, and olive with more feminine details. Maybe it's because I'm wishing spring was really just around the corner or because I finally have a spring break trip finalized, but all I've wanted to do is bring home lighter (both in color and weight) pieces.  Some, like this belle sleeve sweater I just picked up, are perfect for the colder months still ahead, while others like this chambray dress will have to wait for my trip to come out of the closet.

I keep reading that a big trend of 2017 is going to be belle sleeves and other statement sleeves, and if that's truly the case you can sign me up. I love the statement sleeve sweater I already have and definitely see myself adding more blouses and sweaters with statements sleeves to the rotation in the next few months. I particularly love this blouse, this one, and this sweater!

I know it's crazy to say it, but fall is seriously flying by. It feels like just yesterday it was the first day of school and I was still sweating on my short walk to class. Being back in New England this weekend I've been reminded that we're just a couple weeks away from being forced to layer on sweaters and coats to beat the November chill, but believe me I'm not sad about it. I'm more than ready for chunky sweaters and warming up with a hot cider.

I have more things on my October wish list than my wallet can afford (aka nothing), but I wanted to share some of my favorites with you! My fall style always leans on the preppy side (hence this look), but recently I've been lowing pieces with a bit more of a western feel as well. I'd love to mix these two styles by pairing these detailed booties with a classic fisherman sweater (for under $100!). Other highlights include this knotted tee for under $40 and LL Bean boots on sale until Tuesday!

If you've found any must-have pieces for fall, make sure to share below!

October Favorites

Monday, October 10, 2016

My favorite month of the year has arrived and I couldn't be more ready to start transitioning to fall. Unfortunately, the weather in New York stays pretty hot and humid throughout the whole month of September so it's not quite time to pull out my sweaters and coats just yet.

However, that doesn't mean we can't all start wearing some of the best fall trends. Some of my favorites this year include dark florals, all things suede, and flare cut jeans and the best part is you can start wearing all of these trends before temperatures drop below 60 degrees. Mixing typical summer tanks and sandals with pieces in deeper colors and heavier fabrics is the perfect way to start transitioning your summer wardrobe into a fall one. A couple must-try pairings are cropped trousers with a easy tank, breezy dresses with suede jackets, and sleeveless sweaters with flare jeans - all which you can find below :)

Plus, my birthday is just a couple weeks away and this suede jacket from BlankNYC is looking like it's going to be my birthday splurge. All last winter I lusted over the jacket and I think it's finally time to take the plunge since it's back for this fall. If you're looking for a cheaper version though - this option is only $65!

Caroline's Covets: September Favorites

Friday, September 2, 2016

Summer holidays have always been some of my favorite days of the year. Not only do you get the day off school or work, but a back yard barbecue or day at the beach is basically my heaven. Even better is the fact that I can break out all my red, white, and blue pieces without anyone giving me weird looks.

This year Memorial Day was a bit of a wash out, so I'm crossing my fingers that the 4th stays sunny. While my plans aren't entirely figured out, I will be heading out to Long Island for a bit to stay with a friend and get some much needed fresh air. I can almost guarantee my look for the 4th will consist of denim shorts and a striped top, but I've been tempted by a few dressier pieces like this romper or this blouse. Just writing about the 4th makes me dream about seafood, sun, and friends -- thank god it's only 10 days away! There are also some amazing holiday-made pieces on sale right now like this To the Beach tote for only $25. Plus, if you shop today you'll be able to take advantage 50% off everything at Ann Taylor and 50% off sale at J.Crew.

I'll be sharing more of my Fourth of July style in the next week as well as my guide to Rockport, where the picture above was taken, so make sure to stop by Monday!

Happy Friday everyone! While I'm pretty psyched that MDW is finally here for the official start of summer, I've mostly been looking forward to the craazzzyyy sales that are happening this weekend. It's definitely the right time to stock up on your needed basics and even your favorite summer trends (I'll take all the off-the-shoulder tops). I am in serious need of some new pieces for work that are both business casual and fun for summer. These classic ankle pants from Ann Taylor and this blouse from Banana are high up on my list. Hopefully though the rest of you can focus on some of the more fun pieces on sale this weekend, and not just boring work basics.

When I say the sales are crazy, I'm very serious. Here's a list of a few of my favorites incase you don't know where to start:

Just remember, besides the Nordstrom sale (which goes until June 5th) all of these sales will only last through the weekend, so don't wait to buy something. If you can't get into a store to try things on, remember that returns are always an option, but these prices won't be next week. Happy shopping!

P.S. Check back next week for my favorite summer looks! It's time to bring on the red, white and blue!

Graduation for most college students is right around the corner if it hasn't already happened, and this year I have plenty of friends graduating (insert tears here). It's a bit crazy to think that many of my close friends are going to be real adults in the next couple of weeks and have to start dealing with everything that comes along with that (apartments, full time jobs, student loan payments, etc). While most of it seems pretty scary, it's also so exciting and if what I've told been told is true, a great life change from the constant stress of college.

Of course, as a college student, I want to get my friends gifts that are fun and useful, but don't break the bank. I'm sure many of you are in the same position, so I've put together a few of my favorite graduation gifts under $50. When you're on a budget I also always suggest to put together a group gift. I love the idea of buying this wooden tray, cocktail set, and coasters with a group to set one of my friends up with a starter bar set. Also, you can't go wrong with college memorabilia like these embroidered key fobs. You can find a full list of schools available here. Combine the key fob with ad detailed tote bag and your best friend will be ready for work!

It's that time of year again, when the weather warms up and the party invitations start to pile up (figuratively of course, because when do you ever get more than a Facebook invite?). I might complain, but honestly I love how many excuses I have to break out fun and flirty dresses, whether for weddings, grad parties, or even just outdoor evening dinners.

While I'm truly guilty of falling into the jeans and a tee uniform, I love to stock up on a few new dresses each year (see here, here, and here) so that I have a go-to whenever I want to look a little more put together and stylish. I'm always drawn to the fit & flare style, stripes (duh), and options that can be dressed up or down for different occasions. However, some of my best dress finds have been when I've tried on options that I never thought I would like (here and here), so while your out dress shopping for whatever event is coming up I urge you to try on something entirely new.

Plus, to help start your wishlist I have a few of my favorite pics for under $100 with so many amazing options under $50! Who ever said you can't have style and save money?

P.S. The picture above is from my school's semi formal a few weeks back! I found the perfect LBD from Necessary Clothing for only $30! If you're in NYC I highly suggest stopping by the store, but ordering is always iffy for me since they have a pretty strict return policy.

Caroline's Covets N.13 Spring Dresses

Monday, May 2, 2016

Despite temperatures falling to the low 40s yesterday, it truly feels like spring has arrived to NYC. The flowers are blooming, people are walking around jacketless, and I even saw my first ice cream truck of the season. Now that I've started to get a feeling for what this spring will look like, I wanted to share a few of my favorite spring pieces (both old and new) that have been defining my wardrobe.

1) Breezy Shift Dresses - I have a love/hate relationship with loose dresses, but I fell in love with this one from Banana Republic while in Chile. I've wanted to wear it nonstop since it feels so easy to throw on with anything from boots to sneakers to sandals. The key to these dresses, no matter your body shape, is to find the right size so that it hugs your figure while still being a little loose. You might end up sizing up or down depending on the dress, so try on multiple sizes!

2) Tassel Sandals - I'm such a sandals girl and I always break out my opened toed shoes the moment it's even somewhat appropriate. So, I was extra excited this year when Steve Madden sent me these tassel sandals. I've wanted a pair like this for so long and these ones are honestly perfect. My roommates can attest to the fact that once I put them on the only thing that made me take them off was 35 degree weather and the threat of snow.

Steve Madden also showed me an awesome secret - they have a coupon page where you can go to find all the best deals. Plus, don't forget if you present you student ID in stores you get 10% off!

3) Punchy Hued Essie Polish - Usually in the spring I'm all about light pinks or nude colored polish, but this year I can't get enough of bold reddish orange polish. I keep going back to my old summer favorite Geranium, but I also just found a new favorite called Meet Me at Sunset.

4) Off-The-Shoulder Tops - These tops were a staple in my wardrobe last summer, so I thanked my lucky stars when almost every SS 2016 collection featured an off the shoulder top. I haven't bought any new ones yet this year, but I have no doubt that I'll be dropping more money on this trend. Whether you like long sleeve, short sleeve, cropped, or tunic length there is a off the shoulder top for everyone because they are just so darn flattering (can you tell I'm obsessed?)

5) The Classic Leather Jacket - When days go from 70 and sunny to 40 and blustery I'm always reaching for my leather jacket. I feel like every NYC dweller has a leather jacket because they are just so versatile. Yesterday I stayed extra warm with a warm sweater underneath and just a few days before that I was tossing it over a dress. One day I'm hoping I'll be able to afford this $1,300 version, but for now I'm pretty happy with my worn in Zara bestie.

Plus, all the options below are under $100!

Midterms and papers are the only things on my mind this week, but spring break is only days away and my mind is ready for a break. While I'm not going on a traditional spring break trip I am headed to Santiago, Chile where the temperatures will be in the mid 80s with clear skies all week. I'll be in Santiago with my school for a class that all juniors take, but amid the academic activities I'll have plenty of time to explore the incredible city. A hike up the Andes Mountains is already planned with NYU, but I'll also be attempting to check a few things off this amazing list of what to do with 36 hours in Santiago.

So while I won't be lounging on a beach in a bathing suit, I'll be taking full advantage of the incredible weather and a new city to explore. On my packing list so far are easy espadrilles, swingy dresses, linen t-shirts, and of course a comfy pair of loose jeans to wear on the plane! I found a pair of leopard and leather espadrilles on sale for $18 from Aldo this weekend (I know I freaked out too), so you'll probably see me wearing those all.the.time. this spring and summer. Still on my list though is a pair of (cheap) sunglasses to replace mine that have unfortunately stretched out beyond repair. If you have any suggestions for places to look, please comment :)

Wow. It's been a while, hasn't it? I can't believe it's been two weeks since my last post, but sometimes life just gets a little crazy and you have to go on autopilot. I'm in the middle of summer internship recruiting and the conference I'm on the planning team for is less than ten days away - so you could say things are a bit hectic around here.

With all the madness these last few weeks, it kind of just hit me that spring is around the corner. I wore sneakers and a light rain jacket out yesterday and realized that sandal weather is coming. While we're still definitely months away from shorts and sandals weather it is probably time to put away your bean boots and parkas. The end of February and March is a weird transition between seasons, so I always find myself falling back on classics. A chic rain coat, light striped sweaters, ripped jeans, and wrap dresses will all get you through this odd weather. Then when we finally reach May you can pair your sweater with loose shorts and shed your tights!

Now that Labor Day weekend is over I feel it's completely acceptable to forget about all things summer and focus on fall. I love beach days and beating hot summer sun, but I'd be lying if I didn't tell you September and October are my favorite months of the year.

I'd also be lying if I didn't tell you that one of the reasons September is my favorite month of the year is because it's my birthday month :) It works out perfectly that my birthday month lines up with fall shopping because my wish list is pretty long every year. Right now the top things on my wish list are a great fall blazer, burgundy boots, a to-die for satchel, and a new phone case! I'm not looking to invest in anything too crazy this fall, so going back to basics with great ankle boots, fisherman sweaters, and flannel shirts is my plan for the colder months.

I've said it time and time again, but I'll say it again. The Nordstrom Anniversary sale is the BEST sale of the year. While I always try to shop sales, I specifically look forward to the summer Nordstrom sale to get a few key pieces for fall ahead of the season instead of having to wait until November when they go on sale again. It's just not nearly as fun waiting for your favorite pieces to go on sale as it is getting them ahead of the season.

Looking ahead, this fall will again be about getting a few great classics like a quilted jacket or black jeans mixed in with trendier 70s inspired pieces (aka plenty of fringe and flowing sweaters). While I may always be looking for an excuse for a new pair of shoes (it's that Imelda Marcos in me) it really is the time to splurge on a new pair. Truly great shoes never seem to go on sale (unless you're a size 5 or 10 1/2), so getting up to 40% this season's pairs is ah-mazing. I may have to add a pair of suede over the knee boots and those adorable ankle strap heels to my ever-growing closet.

Of course, I couldn't possibly fit all my favorite pieces into the image above, so shop below for all my Nordstrom Sale picks under $100!

Caroline's Covets N.7: Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Under $100

Monday, July 13, 2015

Can you believe July is just two days away? While I've been in summer mode since the end of May I feel like summer really kicks into gear when fourth of July comes around. The end of June came so quickly that I hadn't even thought of plans for the fourth until this past week and let me tell you, planning a last minute trip for 4th of July weekend is not a good plan. Pretty much all buses and trains were sold out when I went to buy tickets. But, I did finally find tickets, so I'm headed home to Massachusetts Wednesday night for the holiday! I'm definitely in need of a little city detox and a weekend with family and friends will be perfect.

If you're anything like me (aka way behind on this whole 4th of july thing) you're just now thinking about what you'll be wearing for your holiday plans. The great thing about waiting 'til the last minute to do some red, white, and blue shopping is that there are some ah-mazing sales this week. J.Crew has 30% off select styles, Old Navy is having their All American Summer Sale, and Banana Republic is offering an extra 40% off all sale items. I have a wish list a mile long and I just keep adding more to it.

Back in high school my friends used to joke that all I wore was red, white, and blue (see here and here). While my style has definitely changed since then I can't help but go all classic Americana and nautical when the 4th comes around. There really is nothing better than a perfect striped shirt and broken-in denim shorts. However, if you like to a little dressier on the 4th this off the shoulder dress paired with red tassel earrings is the way to go.

I couldn't be more ready for a mini vacation and a little extra relaxation time. What are ya'll doing for the 4th? Please share!  If you're looking a little planning inspiration check out Mackenzie's recent posts about 4th of July entertaining.

So clearly I've been a bit absent these last few weeks. I hope you'll believe me when I say I'm working on it. With a much less flexible schedule (now that I've started working full time for the summer) it's been hard figuring out the best time to work on blog posts and shoot pictures. Plus, my favorite photographer (aka best friend) is in Italy for the summer.

But as I get back in the swing of things I have this collection of what I'm currently coveting. Most of this spring has been seriously hot (with this week being the exception), so I've been searching for light and loose pieces that can transition from work to evenings and weekends. It's funny how New York becomes much more of a casual place in the summertime. Everyone is expanding out onto the streets and into every park trying to make the most of the beautiful weather. Since the warm weather I've seen about a million tshirt dresses (like mine), absolutely adorable sandals, and more covetable pairs of sunglasses than I can count. Oh, and while I have no idea when this started, I'm kind of loving light blues and super casual chambray. It just seems extra summery.

PS I'm currently (not so patiently) waiting for my copy of Cupcakes and Cashmere at Home to arrive!

Warm carefree months feel so close now that it's getting warmer outside. Buds are popping up on trees everywhere and the warm wind keeps reminding me that real winter isn't coming back. At the beginning of every season I love to take advantage of sales like the Shopbop sale because you can get new pieces without having to spend full price. Instead of waiting until the end of the season when sizes are often gone or everyone else already has your favorite pair of sandals, you can get your favorite pieces right now.

Shopbop always has my favorite feminine pieces, no matter what the season. While looking through the newest additions to the site I couldn't help be be drawn to lacy pieces with fun cuts. I already know that my go-to look as the weather warms up is casual BF jeans with a lace top and pretty flats. Plus, what would an installment of Caroline's Covets be without a few striped pieces :)

Caroline's Covets N.4 Shopbop Sale

Wednesday, April 8, 2015
Earlier this week a club I'm apart of had an event with Banana Republic, LancĂ´me, and Pucker about the dos and don'ts of clothes and makeup for an interview. While I don't recommend wearing really any of the pieces above for an interview, the biggest thing I took away from the event was the need to look put together. In a formal interview that usually means a suit (sadly), a nice blouse, and a great pair of black (low heel) pumps with a fresh face, but for everyday you should play around with what works for you. No matter your style though, I feel the key is to start creating a wardrobe that almost feels like a brand inspiration board.

I will always have a few pieces I love that seem to go with nothing else in my wardrobe (prime example here), but for the most part I want my wardrobe to seem cohesive. As more pieces complement other pieces the whole idea of looking 'put together' seems a lot less scary because your wardrobe reflects who you are and looks great at the same time.

And of course speaking of looking put together, this collection of my favorite things on the web right now highlights pretty much everything I plan on wearing this spring. You'll be seeing me solely in black, white, blush, and navy with a little bit of snake print and the always classic stripe thrown in. I plan on picking out more than a few extra-feminine pieces, like this blouse, but they'll feel a lot less girly paired with casual slip ons or a well fitting denim jacket (not shown, but I desperately need one). The best part of all these pieces working together is that when my budget only allows me to get a few new things I'll be able to mix-and-match my way to twenty new looks.
