As we were sitting in Central Park this weekend a few friends and I came to the conclusion that we much prefer a cloudy fall day to a sunny one. There's just something about the slight gloom that the clouds bring that makes it feel more like fall, ya know?

Cloudy gloom was definitely my experience in Nantucket a few weekends ago, but I definitely wasn't disappointed to see firsthand why the Grey Lady got it's nickname. I know it's taken me forever to get photos from my short trip up on here, but it's because I'm working on a comprehensive guide to ACK with the help of one my BFFs who is now officially a local to the island. Since I've only visited Nantucket a few times I always leave it to my friend to show me the best parts of the island!

One spot I can recommend 100% on my own is Sankaty Head Lighthouse, my favorite of the three lighthouses on the island. Whenever I'd visited the lighthouse before it had been on perfect summery days, but I have to say I think I liked it even more with the fog. While you can usually see out over the surrounding cliffs and golf course, on the day we headed up to the lighthouse it was like we were lost in a sea of white - pretty magical if I do say so myself.

Of course, every time I leave Nantucket I start planning for my next trip almost immediately, so maybe I'll be seeing Sankaty Head Light next in the snow...?

Can you believe it's the last day of August?? I can't believe how fast these past few months have flown by. This summer has definitely been one defined by constant weekend trips... From Montauk to Upstate New York (and Nantucket coming in just a couple weeks 😀) I feel like I've barely spent anytime in the city these last few months.

All these weekend trips have helped me create an easy checklist of what to pack, no matter the summer destination, so that I can go from afternoons by the water to out with friends at night. While I'm not headed anywhere new this labor day weekend, I hope my summer packing list can help you pack for wherever you're headed this weekend. Oh, and a major plus - all the pieces I'm linking to are currently on sale!

The Casual Wrap Dress
When I bought this dress earlier this summer I wasn't sure how much I would actually wear it. Flash forward three months and I've packed this dress for every trip and wear it out almost every weekend (oops).

Steve Madden Simple Sandals
I'm kind of a broken record when it comes to these Steve Madden sandals. They've traveled with me to as far away as Cuba this year and I consider them my 'throw on with anything and everything' sandals. I've worn them on the blog countless times, including here and here. The best part is you can always find amazing deals on these sandals, some of which I've linked below!

The Sleeveless Sweater
One of my first summer purchases was this sleeveless sweater and since then it's become a wardrobe workhorse. Summer in New England can be pretty unpredictable, and unfortunately sometimes chilly, so this is the perfect layering piece to bring with you for late summer trips.

The Olive Jacket
As mentioned above nights in New England can be chilly, and long freezing bus or train rides can be even worse, so I always make sure to pack a light jacket for weekend trips. Plus, a soft olive colored jacket will bring you straight from summer beach trips to autumn leaf chasing trips.

Clare Vivier Crossbody
If you follow me on Instagram you've seen this bag countless times, and that's because I use it constantly. While it isn't big enough for toting around my camera it's my go-to  for days when I want to carry just my phone and wallet. PS - this is the only item that sadly isn't on sale, but it's definitely worth the splurge! It is one of those bags that just gets better with age.

Five Things to Pack for Labor Day Weekend

Thursday, August 31, 2017

I can't believe it's been two weeks since I was in Montauk with my family, these last few weeks of August are flying by. While I was out out east for the weekend I had two things on my must-do list. The first was trying out The Lobster Roll, which I talked about here last week, and the other was heading to Montauk Point Light. If you don't know - I kind of have a thing for lighthouses. One of my lifelong goals is to visit all the lighthouses in New England (there are almost 200) and have a running list on my phone of the ones I've visited.

So on my last day in Montauk, even with so-so weather I made my fam head out to the state park and trek across the rocks to get some of the best views of the lighthouse. Luckily, I was wearing my trusty espadrilles, perfect for ensuring I wouldn't slip on the rocks while still looking beach ready.

While Cape Cod and Nantucket will probably always be my favorite beach destinations in the Northeast, I would definitely go back to Montauk for another weekend. Besides the lighthouse, highlights included breakfast sandwiches from Montauk Bake Shoppe, cocktails and dinner at Inlet Seafood (definitely family friendly!), and of course spending the day at the beach with a Montauk Watermelon Beer in hand!

Montauk Point Light

Wednesday, August 23, 2017

Being from New England, summer is defined by vacations to the Cape, chilly nights in Maine, and most importantly lobster rolls. Now that I'm living in New York City full-time it's pretty hard to make the trek up to to Massachusetts for my favorite lobster roll spots, so when I headed out to Montauk with my family I knew we needed to try out The Lobster Roll in Amagansett. You may know the spot for it's insta-famous LUNCH sign, but I'm happy to report that the lobster rolls are definitely up to par with my New England favorites. Since we do have a few weeks left of summer Fridays I'll be heading up to Massachusetts and hopefully hitting up another one of my favorites soon 😊

Keep reading for a list of my four favorite Lobster Rolls spots!

FAVORITE LOBSTER ROLL SPOTS
(in no particular order)

Barnacle Billy's
Barnacle Billy's in Oqunquit is the longest running favorite on this list. Nestled at the end of the Marginal Way it's the perfect place to finish off your walk along the coast.

Woodman's of Essex
Woodman's is what you're picturing when you think classic New England lobster shack - gingham covered picnic tables, buttered buns, and an ice cream store next door to finish off your meal.

Luke's Lobster
Honestly, Luke's makes it on my list of favorites for it's multiple locations in Manhattan. The rolls are great, but the fact that those of us stuck in the city can get a bit of the beach is the real reason I love this spot. I generally head to the location at the Plaza Food Hall and bring my roll out to Central Park for a picnic, but there are multiple locations throughout the city.

The Lobster Roll Amagansett
I've already raved about The Lobster Roll earlier in this post so I'll spare you the long explanation. You might go for the aesthetic, but you'll stay for the extensive menu including both hot and cold lobster rolls, watermelon beer, and amazing desserts.

My Favorite Lobster Rolls

Wednesday, August 16, 2017

My personal goal this summer was to get out of NYC for as many weekends as I could and so far it's been going pretty well. As much as I love the city, there's nothing like being surrounded by true nature during the summer months, so I've been taking serious advantage of visiting friends living outside the city.

This past weekend I headed out to the North Shore of Long Island to stay with one of my old roommates (Hi Annie!) and let me tell you - I LOVE the north shore! It's not only beautiful down by the water, but the towns are also full of cute shops and restaurants like Sweetie Pies in Cold Spring Harbor. Having a great tour guide who knows me so well meant we explored so many places that were right up my alley. Keep reading below for a few of my favorite spots!

Huntington is the cutest little town and if you head towards the Bay there are so many gorgeous houses right up by the water. Plus, it's hydrangea season (my favorite!) and almost every house is surrounded by pretty pink and blue hydrangeas.

The small center of town in Cold Spring Harbor is full of picturesque places like the one above!

This Lively swimsuit arrived right as I was packing up for the weekend and it is truly perfect! It's my first one-piece and I have to say I'm sold. You have to check out the fun back of it too. Also, please ignore my sunburn lines... I promise I was wearing sun screen!

As we headed to pickup a delicious peach cake from Youngs Farm this weekend my friend told me bringing my camera along was a must and thank god she did! The farm store had delicious looking veggies and the bakery had so many summer pies and jams. Along with the cake we also ended up getting fresh biscuits and Strawberry Rhubarb jam which made for the best breakfast the next morning.

Of course, I had to end with even more hydrangeas 😄

Weekend Recap: North Shore Long Island

Monday, July 10, 2017

I can't even begin to describe how incredible this last week has been. You may have noticed I dropped off the face of the (digital) planet, and it was because I spent eight days in Cuba during which I entirely unplugged.

I traveled with about 20 other students and stayed in a villa outside Havana that was absolutely incredible during my first four days in the country. The first two mornings a group of us got up early to go in and explore the city, which felt like time traveling back to the 50s everywhere you turned. You think people are exaggerating when they say it feels like a different world, but it is entirely true. Almost every car is an old convertible and the buildings are all in some state of decay. It's clear that the recent embargo lifts have already changed the city drastically, but the magic definitely hasn't gone away. The people of Cuba are incredible and even with my limited Spanish speaking it was amazing having the chance to get to know some of them. Otherwise, I'll let the photos speak for themselves :)

If you're thinking of traveling to Cuba my biggest piece of advice is ask for recommendations from everyone who has gone before. All of the restaurant recommendations we got from others were the best meals I had in the city (see some listed below!). At the same time though, make sure you have time to wander and explore. One of my favorite moments was accidentally wandering into a Mexican Art Museum in the most beautiful building (it's the pink walls below!).

Must-Do Activities
Havana Vieja - This it a bit general, but Havana Vieja is the old part of the city that is absolutely beautiful. Spend time just getting lost along the streets and discovering art galleries and restaurants
Car Tour Around the City - This one is super touristy, but so worth it. You'll get the best perspective of how the city is laid out
Mojito Hopping - From famous spots like Bodequita del Medio to random restaurants, spent an afternoon trying all the different delicious mojitos the city has to offer
The Malecon - The Malecon is the long highway along the water and talking a walk along it either at sunset or after a night out is a must

Havana Restaurants
Paladar Dona Eutimia - Delicious lunch or dinner spot with frozen mojitos shown below
Palader Los Mercaderes - A more expensive dinner spot with the best ropa vieja (classic Cuban dish)
La Algaribia - A non-touristy sandwich spot with the best fruit 'smoothies' (they're more like milkshakes) I've ever had

Havana Photo Diary

Wednesday, March 22, 2017

As much as I love fall in New York, it can never compare to Boston in October. After realizing I had a pretty free weekend I called up one of my best friends and spontaneously booked a trip to Boston. After arriving late Friday night we woke up early the next morning for a delicious brunch (donut holes were involved, I was freaking out!).

For the rest of the afternoon we wandered around Beacon Hill, because the only way to really find all the cutest alley ways is to get lost. I don't think I've ever actually found Acorn St (the famous Beacon Hill street) when I've actually been looking for it. I'll let the photos really speak for themselves, but the brownstones paired with pumpkins and changing leaves were truly perfect. By the time 4pm hit we were all pretty exhausted, so we plopped ourselves at Tatte with iced coffees and pastries. Unlike New York, Boston keeps outdoor seating open until snow is literally falling, and we took plenty of advantage of the outdoor tables since the temperatures were in the 60s! If you're looking for an insta-worthy cafe Tatte is definitely your spot in Boston, plus their own Instagram is perfection.

Also, I apologize in advance for the photo overload below ;) Plus, to see more of my Boston & NYC adventures follow along on Instagram.
