I talk a lot about building a cohesive wardrobe and investing in high quality pieces, but let's be real, it's a lot easier to talk the talk than to walk the walk.

After years of buying a million cheap tees and multiple faux leather skirts I finally took my own advice and saved up for the investment pieces. In my experience the key to getting the right investment pieces is quality and fit. If you can check off both those boxes you're doing something right.

I would normally never suggest spending the amount I did on this skirt (though I did get it at 50% off), but after buying two different faux leather skirts (1 & 2) in the past year and a half and wearing them to death I knew I needed to make an investment. A leather skirt is a year-round piece that can be worn to class, work (sometimes), and even out at night, so it really is must-have staple. I fell in love with this one because of the feminine & flattering tulip shape (not to mention the feel of real leather). If you're looking for your first leather skirt I would say go straight to Zara for a medium price, but if you get hooked like I have make an investment in a piece that will last years.

Now, let's talk about the tee. Investing in a great tee is a must-do and really anyone can do it because it's less about the cost and more about the fit and quality. The perfect tee doesn't have to cost you more than $50, but you should go nicer than the throw away $5 Forever 21 option. I've always found the best tees at J.Crew and Gap and you really can't beat the prices, especially if you wait for a sale! The hard work is finding the material and shape that works best for you. My go-to is a light linen tee and I usually go one size up to get a loose casual fit. The right tee is like the right pair of jeans, you'll try on a million before you find the right pair, but once you find the one you'll never need to look again.

Ask anyone and they'll tell you that I have a shoe addiction. After returning home from studying abroad in December (and buying three new pairs of shoes) I actually counted how many pairs I owned. The number is too ridiculous to be shared, but believe me when I tell you I am always looking for a new pair of shoes. So, when I found out my favorite place to shop online, Dressometry, was adding shoes to their site I couldn't have been more excited. Since I started interning with the Dressometry team last January we've grown an incredible amount, but this is probably my favorite addition. More than once I've found myself just scrolling through the browse page and losing all track of time. 

While I've always been a shoe person I only recently became a heels kind of girl. I will always love a new pair of flats (have a nude pair being shipped currently), but there is something extra fun about buying a new pair of heels. With summer on the horizon (or at lease supposedly) I've been thinking about the must-have heels for every girl. Of course, everyone needs a classic black pump to go from work to fun, but during the warmer months there are a few more must-haves for every stylish wardrobe. 

This heel is your ultimate night-time shoe for summer. They aren't necessarily the most walkable shoe so you should probably reserve them for cab-to-curb kind of nights, but they are so much fun. I always love a neutral option, but picking a bright color or fun pattern can add a pop to an all black look. 

These pumps are the perfect heels to bring you from work to dinner or a party with friends. They will go with everything and make your legs look about a million miles long. They key is to find a pair as close to your skin color as you can (which can be a seriously hard task) so that it looks continuous. 

You should always have a heel that can be worn all day into the night time. A chunky stacked heel is the way to do that when you want to add a little height. I always think a peep toe bootie is the best option, but a more strappy shoe is also fun. You can also switch out the chunky heel for a classic wedge like this.

The one thing I've been told over and over again is that if there is one piece every woman needs in her closet it is a trench coat. As the weather has begun to warm up this year it has become clear that every put together woman walking around New York has a stylish or classic trench coat as a part of her spring wardrobe. 

It is amazing how tossing one of these exquisite jackets over even just cut-offs can pull a look together. Now that we've all finally put our peacoats in the back of the closet I think it is time to switch over to the perfect trench that can bring you all the way through spring and summer until fall hits and we have to take the heavier layers out again. 

As someone searching for their first trench coat I feel like the classic tan with black buttons is the way to go, but I've also fallen in love with a few non traditional options. A navy, olive green, or white option in a lighter flowy fabric looks just amazing. After stealing my friend's olive trench coat last week I fell in love with the light airy feel. With all the options out there, as well as the huge range of prices, I thought I'd help you all (and myself) pick the perfect trench coat to become a classic in your wardrobe. Happy shopping :)

The days are getting longer and with the extra sunshine and warm days a lot has been happening! I know Peachy Keen has been a bit slow the last week or so (make sure to check out my last post), but that's actually been because so much is happening in the real world. 

With only about a month left in my school semester my plans for the summer are finally coming together and I'm so excited to share them with you all :) In the past week two very exciting things have happened that have made me so ready for summer to begin. First off, this week I will be signing a lease on an amazing apartment in SoHo where I'll be living (with two friends!) for the next year. The apartment is in the location of my dreams and means I'll be a five minute walk from Washington Square Park. Once I'm moved in and have been able to do some decorating I'll share my (very small) space with all of you. Secondly, I have a job! I'm not ready to share most of the details about my internship, but I will say it is for a boutique PR agency and I couldn't be more excited. I'm looking forward to a new experience and learning about a new facet of marketing.

What all this really means though is that this summer is shaping up to be pretty amazing! With the weather finally looking up and my semester winding down I can't wait to share my adventures in and around NYC this summer.

I know I keep saying it, but Spring Is Here! This weekend would have been absolutely perfect if it weren't for some virus that kept making me feel horrible and the huge amount of work I had to get done. I experienced most of the beautiful weather by sitting by an open window, but I finally got out for a bit on Sunday! While I don't particularly love the Gramercy/Murray Hill area, I do love walking around Gramercy Park. It's so quiet compared to the rest of the city and now that it's spring you can hear the birds chirping!

Now, can we talk about my shoes? I'm obsessed with them and find basically any excuse to break them out now that it's warm enough. Now the back story... I found these perfect peep toe booties at a Bloomingdales outlet while home for Winter Break. I walked skipped around the store basically beaming with these adorable shoes on until my mom came up to me and said I would never end up wearing them. As much as I want to deny it, my mom is usually right about what I will and won't wear, but this time I decided to ignore her. The $35 price tag (I lucked out with an extra extra discount) was just too perfect and I had to have these shoes. Flash forward 4 months and for once my mom was wrong. I've already worn these booties out at night and during the day! While they aren't appropriate for playing tourist and walking for miles, they are perfect for summer brunching or a night out with friends.

Warm carefree months feel so close now that it's getting warmer outside. Buds are popping up on trees everywhere and the warm wind keeps reminding me that real winter isn't coming back. At the beginning of every season I love to take advantage of sales like the Shopbop sale because you can get new pieces without having to spend full price. Instead of waiting until the end of the season when sizes are often gone or everyone else already has your favorite pair of sandals, you can get your favorite pieces right now. 

Shopbop always has my favorite feminine pieces, no matter what the season. While looking through the newest additions to the site I couldn't help be be drawn to lacy pieces with fun cuts. I already know that my go-to look as the weather warms up is casual BF jeans with a lace top and pretty flats. Plus, what would an installment of Caroline's Covets be without a few striped pieces :)

Today is definitely a catch up day for me. After a busy weekend academically combined with Easter this week is going to be all about catching up on work and fitting in sleep wherever possible. However, getting to leave the city for a 24 hour trip to Long Island for Easter was a nice break from the craziness. 

I love any excuse to wear a pretty dress, and now that it's spring I plan on wearing them all.the.time. When I found this dress at LOFT last week for 50% I knew I had to get it for Easter. In an ideal world I'd be tan and able to wear a white lacy dress for the holiday, but the reality is I'm months away from a real tan. So, wearing a black and white dress (with a but of blush mixed in) was the perfect compromise. Plus, I was just thankful that the weather actually stayed nice and I wasn't freezing with my bare legs.

The main reason for my trip to DC last weekend was to attend the GWU Women in Business Spring Conference. I am a huge fan of attending conferences and panels whenever possible because not only will you usually gain knowledge about the industry you want to go into, but I'm always re-inspired to go out and work for what I really want. As far as conferences go, this one was probably the most inspiring so far, so I thought I would share a few things I learned throughout the day. 
The opening keynote was Aliza Licht, who you might know better as DKNY PR Girl, Aliza really was the start to the fashion industry on social media which means she really knows what it means to build a brand (both for yourself and a company) through social media. The most interesting she said (which all you bloggers will appreciate) was that she has never had a content calendar because she believes that creating one would be like going into a conversation with notecards, a really stupid plan. 

As she went more into personal branding Aliza said that you really have to step back and take a hard look at yourself on social media. Your profile picture, bio, and posts are all incredibly important to building your personal brand, so you should align these things with what you want people to think of you. Align what you think of yourself with what others think of you. I couldn't get enough of her advice, which was why it was amazing when we all received advanced copies of her book, Leave Your Mark. I've been flying through the pages as fast as my school schedule will allow.

Jumping to the end of the day, the closing keynote was Gillian Gorman Round, President of The Lucky Group. Gill has had one of the most interesting careers starting in beauty in the UK and ending up in fashion media in the US. Hands down, the best piece of advice she said was to always keep your hands dirty. Work the hardest and don't expect a thank you or a good job and you will succeed. Us millennial are seen to be somewhat arrogant and self-important. While that isn't true for everyone out there it is the stereotype and we do have to fight it. By working the hard jobs (retail, waitressing, etc) and showing you have worked hard for something you disprove the belief that this generation is entitled and do better because of it. That's all a bit serious (and you could tell the room was a bit freaked out), but at the end of her keynote Gill reminded everyone that you still need to have fun. If it isn't fun then what you're doing probably isn't right for you and it's ok that you haven't figured it out yet. 

Overall, the conference was just an amazing experience and I give a lot of props to the committee that put it together. I really think (outside of actual work experience) the best way to figure out what you want to do and then figure out the best way to get there is to always attend opportunities like this conference. You never know if in one of these panels you'll find a completely new career path that is the perfect one for you.

I can't believe it's been a week since I last posted. I'm just hoping you didn't all forget about me? If you follow along on instagram though you know that the reason I've been absent is my trip to DC this past weekend. I went down for the GWU Women in Business conference that turned out to be absolutely spectacular (more on that to come!). 

My friend Cheyenne and I arrived on Friday afternoon and after checking into our hotel we quickly headed over to Georgetown for a bit of exploring. Somehow, even though it had been overcast all day, the sun came out and the temperatures jumped as soon as we got there. Of course we did a bit of shopping (Anthropologie, J.Crew, and BCBG were on our must do list), but the real attraction was the beautiful brownstones. 

If you know anything about me you know I love the West Village and beautiful townhouses there, and Georgetown is just as amazing. The combination of ivy and patriotic pops of color was absolutely perfect. As soon as I found a house with a flag I knew I had to get a picture with it. Of course I"ll always be loyal to New York, but I could definitely see myself walking through the streets of Georgetown everyday.
