Happy Halloween everyone! I've been a huge fan of Halloween ever since I was little (this girl loves her horror movies) but almost every year I figure out my costume at the last minute. This year was even worst than most since I came up with my costume literally yesterday. After seeing this top at Necessary Clothing and finding a string of (fake) pearls at a thrift store I knew I had to be a flapper. I know what you're thinking, everyone is a flapper this year, but this is a classic easy last minute costume that looks great on everyone! Hopefully I will have some fun pictures to share with you guys!

I also finally got in with the leather skirt trend I've been seeing everywhere. I was originally looking for a more flowy version, but the fun zipper on this skirt caught my eye! I love that I can wear it casually with this striped tee or dress it up with heels and a blouse. While I loved this look it was definitely a sad day when I needed to pull out my tights. Fall seems to already been fading into Winter, which I am most definitely not ready for.

In the last year I've really started to like nail art. I used to think plain nails looked nicer, but now I can't resist adding a little sparkle or pattern to my mani. Right know I'm loving navy and maroon colors for fall and either gold or white accents. One of my favorite trends is chevron and right now I have navy nails with a gold chevron strip on my ring fingers!

You may think that fun nail art is impossible to do at home, but it is quite the opposite. I have a pretty unsteady hand and no extra money to get a manicure every week but I've been able to master a few different looks. Adding glitter is a simple way to add sparkle!

 If you want to add stripes or chevron try cutting a piece of scotch tape in the pattern you want. I often cut a v into a strip of tape and then place it on the finger I want to pain the chevron on. Then you have a template which you can just paint over! No need to be an artist. One thing I have learned though is to wait a long time (several hours) between painting your base color and sticking the tape on your finger. If you do it too soon the tape can pull all the polish off when you go to remove it.

The whole process gets even easier after you do it a few times. So don't be scared to try out new nail trends!

{LOFT sweater, J.Crew shirt (similar), Old Navy jeans, Express boots, Nordstrom watch, unknown bracelet}

If you follow my instagram you probably already know that I have a slight coffee addiction. While I don't wake up needing my fix, at about three o'clock every afternoon the craving comes.  Last Thursday my friend Alice (who is my incredible new photographer!) and I ventured out to try a new coffee place that was sadly much too busy to sit down in. Instead we sat in Tompkins Sq Park, which ended up being almost as nice!

The sweater/jacket I'm wearing is one of my favorite fall additions to my closet. I picked it up last week at LOFT when everything was 50% off! I had been looking for a tweed jacket for a while but nothing every worked out and then I saw this jacket. While it isn't exactly tweed the sweater material is very similar to tweed (and Loft calls it a tweed jacket) and the fun peplum in the back caught my eye. I love how the piece works like a jacket while having the feeling of a sweater!

Happy Friday everyone! I'm looking forward to gorgeous fall weather in the city this weekend! I plan to make the most of it by have breakfast outdoors and browsing through the Union Sq Farmers market that I haven't gotten a chance to go to yet! I'll also be studying for the mid-terms I have next weekend (not exciting) so wish me luck!

Also, on a completely unrelated note as I've been procrastinating studying I've been seeing this Kate Spade bag everywhere and I think I am in love with it. While the bag is completely out of my price range I'm craving the all black or red options!

Have a great weekend!

I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to be Liz Schneider from Sequins & Stripes! Not only does she have incredible style, but she gets the chance to style others as her job. I have been an avid follower of Sequins & Stripes since 2011 and it has been incredible watching both Liz and the blog grow. {Silence + Noise blazer, Zara top, Old Navy coated jeans, Aldo flats, Rebecca Minkoff bag, Kate Spade phone case}

In the last few months I've become a huge leather fan. Leather details on sweaters, leather skirts, and leather pants have been on my wish list. However, there is no way I can afford real leather pants so when I saw these coated jeans I thought I would give them a try. I've ended up loving these jeans and I probably wear them a little too much.

 So far this look has been one of my favorites with the jeans! I picked up this striped tee from Zara because I love the zipper details and adding a blazer  and flats makes the look perfect for class!

My instagram has been going a little crazy recently since I finally got a new iPhone. After three years an upgrade was definitely needed. The camera is so much better on my new phone that I've been snapping a million pictures everywhere I go. I know I'm instagram obsessed, but really is anyone not these days?

Lately From My Phone

Happy Saturday! These weekend is jam packed for me since my parents are coming to visit and I have lots of midterms next week.

I'll be resorting to easy classics this weekend during my busy days. However, one of the easiest ways I like to switch up the usual jeans and a sweater is by wearing coated jeans that look like leather! I love the pair above from Topshop, but I recently bought a less expensive pair in black from Old Navy that look great. Adding easy flats and a comfy sweater makes for a look perfect for a day filled with studying and exploring.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Saturday Style: Coated Jeans

{Pins and Needles leather jacket, H&M sweater, Madewell jeans, Express booties, unknown scarf (borrowed from my friend Alice!)}

Can you believe it is already Thursday? Long weekends really do make life better. After getting back to the city on Monday it has seemed like mother nature has finally decided it is fall and the temperatures have gotten seriously chilly. This quick change has had me reaching for my comfy layers, especially my leather jacket, which keeps me warm on cold windy mornings as I walk to class.

 When my friend was taking these pictures on our way to dinner I realized that my fall uniform is quickly becoming cozy sweaters, jeans, and ankle boots. It has been my go to look for pretty much everything recently. When I'm tired or running late for class layering neutral pieces with jeans and adding a patterned scarf is the perfect way to be comfortable but still look put together.

These ankle boots that I bought a few weeks ago have already become my favorite pair of shoes for fall. The chunky two inch heel keeps my feet way happier than they are when I wear flats and they go with everything. I didn't really listen to people who told me to get comfortable shoes for walking around the city, but in the last few weeks my foot has been in some serious pain after wearing flats and the only shoes that really help are these boots!

{J.Crew Field Jacket, J.Crew chambray shirt, Old Navy jeans, Ecote boots, Revlon Vixen nail polish}

I was so happy this weekend that I got the chance to stop by the Apple Orchard my family goes to every year. Sadly, I didn't have enough time to truly go apple picking, but I did get to indulge in some of my favorite fall treats, hot apple cider and cider doughnuts.

The fall foliage and crisp temperatures definitely brought on my classic New England style and I ended up purchasing the J.Crew Field Jacket I've been wanting for so long (for 25% off!). I know it will be perfect paired with my favorite cozy sweaters for the colder temperatures over the next few months!

There is something about Fall in New England that no other place in the world can match, a fact I only realized after leaving Massachusetts for school in New York. If you follow my instagram then you know I left the city for a few days this weekend to spend some time at home with my family and friends. After a grueling 6 hour bus ride home Friday night I was questioning whether coming home for just a few days was really worth it. However, Saturday morning I woke up seeing beautiful red and yellow leaves outside my window and smelling my mom's incredible french toast cooking downstairs and I realized a few days at home would be perfect.

One of the things I didn't realize I would miss was fall in my little New England town. Driving through winding roads with small farms and old rock walls is something you just don't get in the city. In the last few days I've packed in a few of my favorite parts of fall, including a walk through the woods, pumpkin ice cream, and of course apple picking.

I'm happy to be heading back to the city tonight, but I know soon I'll miss my family and the perfect fall days in the country.

New England Fall

Monday, October 14, 2013

I've just started my hunt for a winter coat and even though I've lived in the Northeast for seven years I'm pretty unexperienced in this area. Let's just say in the past I generally have ran from my car to a warm building shivering in a light jacket. Unfortunately, attempting to wear a light jacket all winter isn't going to work well in the city. I have a 15 minute walk to classes every morning and I don't plan on shivering the whole way there everyday.

However, I don't want to buy a coat that I will hate wearing because it looks like a puffy ski jacket. I've been scrolling through my pinterest feed for inspiration, because really what better way is there to waste time and while also being productive. I think I've decided on a style similar to a classic peacoat instead of a parka or military style. I was originally thinking a neutral navy or black but shades of red have really been catching me eye. A deep maroon would go with my entire winter wardrobe perfectly!

What is your ideal winter coat? I would love suggestions since I'm still pretty lost in this whole search.

p.s. Sorry for the lack of outfit posts recently. My SD card has mysteriously disappeared into my room somewhere. I'm hoping to get a new one this weekend.

On the Hunt For a Winter Coat

Wednesday, October 9, 2013

I was never a fan of leather before last fall and since then I've become a little obsessed. In the last few months I've gotten two leather jackets (one was a gift) and a pair of jeans coated to look like leather. I have a very girly/feminine style and I never thought there was a place for leather in my wardrobe. However, I've been proven wrong by many pieces, especially the skirt above.

I've had my eye on a skirt like this for a while and I may finally bring it home with me. A flippy leather skirt can be worn during the day with a sweater tucked into it and comfy booties and tights. Then at night switching the sweater for a silky top and statement necklace creates a completely different look.

As mid-terms get closer and work in my classes starts to pile up the weeks are feeling longer and longer. Don't get me wrong, I love most of the classes I'm taking but sometimes you just need a break and that is when weekends become precious.

I plan on spending some time in Brooklyn checking out Beacon's Closet in Williamsburg. Even though I've been in Manhattan for over a month I've barely had time to really explore surrounding neighborhoods and other boroughs. This post on Cheetah is the New Black this week made me realize that I can't take my time in NYC for granted!

What are your plans for the weekend? Whatever they are I hope you get a chance to recuperate after the long week!

Happy Weekend!

{column one: infinity scarf, brocade dress, tote}

While October usually means it is really fall outside the weather has been in the eighties the last few days here in New York. Still making this month's 20 Under $25 post had me dreaming of the chilly days to come.

When it comes to Fall I always turn to deeper colors and gold/tortoise shell jewelry. I'm loving the pieces from Bauble Bar right now including the tortoise shell bracelet and fun snake ring above. The black accents in these jewelry pieces always end up pairing well with black accessories like the H&M tote that is the perfect size to carry everything you need for work or school.

I've also been looking for more clothing that I can wear now in the warmer weather and still wear in a few months when I need heavy layers. The brocade dress from Forever 21 is would be perfect with booties right now and later adding thick black tights and a warm sweater/coat makes the outfit winter appropriate. Of course cozy essentials like a v neck boyfriend sweater and chambray top are on my list as well!

Happy shopping and Happy October to you all!

October 20 Under $25

Thursday, October 3, 2013

I haven't had nearly as much time the last few weeks to watch shows from fashion week(s) and check out all the S/S collections, but two collections I wouldn't miss from PFW were Céline and Saint Laurent. Sadly, I did not get to watch either of the shows through live screenings, but I did get the change to ogle over the pictures yesterday.

I loved both collections and actually noticed a lot of similarities between the two. Graphic prints, like the lips in Saint Laurent and abstract primary color swatches in Céline, really popped in between mostly black looks. Both collections also had plenty of nautical accents (which you all know I love!) with striped tops and collars.

Can you believe it is already October? September completely flew by and it is amazing to think I've been at school for well over a month now. While I'm definitely excited for fall sweaters and boots I know I'll be ready for these spring looks sooner than I think!
