H&M dress, J.Crew belt (similar), MIA boots, unknown tights and scarf

This may be my favorite fall/winter outfit I've ever worn. I bought this sweater dress from H&M in February and barely had time to wear it before spring came. It is one of the comfiest pieces I own and yet it can be dressed up easily. Whether belted or unbelted it looks great!
Scarves are a must have for cold days in New England. I love infinity scarves so I tied the fringe strings at each of this scarf end together to create one!
I'm hoping to do more outfit posts on here but I often get home long after the sun has set.
I'm definitely ready for the beginning of December and for the holidays. December always ends up being fun and full or surprises! I'll be welcoming the month by spending some times outside since highs are going to be in the 60s!

I think pretty much everyone wishes they looked like the girls shown on Stockholm Streetstyle, The Sartorialist, and other street style blogs. I know I am jealous of their looks almost everyday. Recently I've noticed some recurring trends that I love and have been trying to work them into my outfits. Above are a few of my favorite trends!

{Images from Kelly Cutrone's page on Facebook}

I hope all of you know who Kelly Cutrone is. If not, you should. Ever since I first saw Kelly Cutrone on The Hills (yes I know I just said I saw her on The Hills, but keep reading) Kelly's ideas and business tactics have intrigued me. I continued to watch The City and Kell on Earth because I always wanted to know more about Cutrone's life.
Then this past summer I read If You Have to Cry Go Outside and Other Things Your Mother Never Told You by Kelly Cutrone, and I loved it. The book is full of both funny and serious advice. This book is perfect for girls in high school, college, and entering the workforce.
Kelly tells the truth about life and the way things work. If you know anything about Kelly you know she doesn't sugarcoat the way she feels, and this book is no different. Kelly goes farther than most by not only telling you to fight for your dreams, but also how to go about doing it. She inspired me to really pursue my dreams even though I've been told they won't come true.

Recently I've been loving skater skirts! For as long as I can remember tight
skirts have been popular, but they don't flatter my body so
I've always tried to avoid them. However, skater skirts are tight
around the waist and then flare out. They make
your waist look teeny tiny and hide any bumps around your tummy. You
can also buy skirts that flare out a lot or just a little. I've
been on  the hunt to find some skirts perfect for winter and
some of my favorites are above!

This Thanksgiving there is so much I am thankful for. Today I will be surrounded by my family and friends, all of which are healthy and happy. We will all sit down for a meal and eat more than we should. There will probably be small arguments about cooking, politics, and kids but that's one of the things I love about my family. I hope everyone else can find happiness on this day whether you are with friends, family, or traveling to see them. Have a happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving

For those of you that don't know I have an obsession with New York. Though I'm not sure obsession is the right word because usually an obsession is bad or unhealthy, but this is completely healthy. From this post you should know that I think NewYork has a certain magic about it. My mind has been centered around this beautiful city for a few reasons recently so when I saw these beautiful photographs from the November issue of Madame Figaro (whose website translates almost perfectly thanks to google chrome!) shot by Alexandre Weinberger I fell in love (again). The photography perfectly captures what I love about New York; the city, the fashion, and the attitude.

Hope everyone's Monday went well! I'm counting down the days until Thanksgiving. A few days off from school will provide much needed time for sleeping, relaxing, and a few pesky college apps I have left .

A New York Story

I love shopping at places like Forever 21 and H&M just as much as anyone, and probably more. These places are perfect when you are looking for a cheap outfit or trying out a new trend. Almost 50% of my wardrobe is probably from places like Forever 21. However, when your looking for classic pieces it's better to pay a little more for better quality.

I've always had a hard time finding jeans I like, but after buying a pair of J Brand jeans a few weeks ago I think I've found my brand. They fit perfectly and are a great price and quality. For other pieces like fall/winter jackets, sweaters, leather bags, and flats paying a little more can insure that they last for a long time. J.Crew and Madewell are always great for these types of things. A great dress that can be worn casual as well as dressy is also a piece I will spend more for (though the dress above is only $44!). I'm probably the queen of cheap jewelry. I rarely buy expensive jewelry, and I never buy expensive earrings (I've lost almost every pair), but buying bracelets that are easily stackable and classic is worth the money. The ones above from J.Crew are two of my favorites right now.

I'm extremely happy that it's finally the weekend! Though I hope everyone has a better weekend planned then me since mine will be filled with work, studying, and college apps. So I'll be drinking plenty of coffee hopefully looking just as stylish as the girl above!

Happy Weekend!

When I subscribed to J.Crew newsletters I never thought I would be getting emails every day about sales and special offers. Even worse (well sort of better), I never thought I would actually enjoy getting endless emails from J.Crew, but I do. I love their daily emails because I always know when there are great sales and free shipping (going on right now!).

I also find out right away that there are new arrivals! After todays email I went and stalked all of J.Crew's winter collection, and yes I'm in love. Real true love. I want everything. Unfortunately on my limited budget and christmas coming soon I can't afford nearly everything I want. Above are some of my favorite pieces from the winter collection! Tell me which you think I should splurge on!

I love when the holidays begin. I'm completely against singing christmas music until December and I don't think we should have Turkeys around until November, but once the holiday season begins I love singing christmas carols, drinking hot apple cider, and making pumpkin pie!

Though as much as I love Thanksgiving and Christmas I never really know what to wear. It's always fun to get dressed up, but Thanksgiving dinner at my house is usually centered around football and a lot of food, so it really isn't the right time to break out a brand new dress. Christmas is a little dressier, but still not cocktail party dressy. Since I usually want to wear something nicer than just a pair of jeans I usually turn to a pretty skirt or an embellished top. They are easy pieces that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Adding a fun necklace (like the collar necklace above) can make a simple shirt more fun.

Instead of wearing uncomfortable heels all night at a casual party finding a nice pair of flats assures you will be comfortable and stylish. I love cap toe heels and flats, especially the pair above from J.Crew. Adding a metallic toe even ties in other jewelry you might be wearing. By buying separate pieces like skirts, blazers, and jewelry you can make more than just one outfit and be set for all your holiday get togethers.

p.s. sometimes it is fun to buy a pretty dress, thus the dress from topshop above.

What to Wear For the Holidays

2: Hunter
3: Sperry Topsider

In the last week Boston has gone from being hit by Hurricane Sandy to a Nor'Easter. So the weather has been pretty crazy, and It has been hard to adjust to below freezing temperatures when it was almost 60 last week.
The first snow fall has had me begun thinking about the long winter ahead of those of us in the North East, and how I am going to deal with it. To be frank I'm not a cold weather girl. I like the beginning of fall when the air is crisp and highs are in the high 60s, but once we hit the 40s I want to go into hibernation.
The only way I survice until March is by layering heavy sweater and coats, going to Starbucks often (I'm obsessed with the holiday cups!), and wearing water proof boots. Honestly high school girls have the cold weather shoes down to a science. Once it gets slushy outside I see a daily parade of Hunters, Sperry boots, bean boots, and all other forms of water proof shoes.
I love my leather boots but most days in the winter they just get destroyed by the snow and slush, so that is wear the rubber boots come in. You can get so much more than just plain rain boots and still be safe from the snow! My go to shops have always been Hunter and Sperry but there are so many places to by fun boots! Some of my favorites are above!

~ Caroline

p.s. I have the red Hunter rain boots and LOVE them. I would easily wear them every day if I could. The bright color adds some fun to a dreary winter day, and transitions perfectly into spring and summer!

I used to have an extreme aversion to leather. As a self proclaimed girly girl, who wore nothing but skirts and Mary Janes as a child, leather just seemed to harsh. I didn't think leather would fit into my wardrobe of lace and soft textures.

However, the whole fashion world has seemed obsessed with leather as of late. Whether it's leather pants, leather jackets, or leather accessories everyone seems to be sporting it. Even the girliest of girls have found ways to incorporate some leather into their closets.

So not all that surprisingly I've been drawn more and more to leather lately. I don't think I'll be rocking leather pants any time soon (though I have thought about trying on a pair), but little accents of leather may start to show up in my wardrobe. I love leather arms on military jackets especially, and have begun to hunt for a reasonably priced jacket!

I recently discovered Style Saint and I'm completely addicted. Think of Pinterest but just for fashion. Style Saint lets you put together look books on any topic you want. Some of my recent look books are called Jeans Rule the World, Classics, and Wear That Confidence. It is so much fun looking through other people's books of different trends, prints, styles, etc. If you join you can follow me here. I would recommend the site to anyone who needs a little daily inspiration (especially as dreary winter months begin)!
